Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has lifted the lid on his opinion on Ligue 1 on the eve of the Champions League RO16 first leg against PSG. The Premier League leaders lock horns with the Ligue 1 leaders in Paris on Wednesday. During his pre-game press conference at Parc des Princes, the Dutchman notably said he could not understand the views citing the French top-tier as a low-level league. “I rate the French league quite high because I’ve played a lot against French teams”, the Dutchman said. “I think it’s better than some other leagues. It’s clear French teams have done well in the past and the national team is one of the best.”
Slot previously said he was very appreciative of Bruno Genesio’s work as Lille head coach before facing Les Dogues in the league phase. Liverpool were made to work hard to clinch a narrow 2-1 home win against a 10-man Lille side. “We’ve played Lille, they have played Lille, they were already 4-0 up at half-time and we were 1-0 up at half-time so that tells you how strong they are.”
