Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté faces a period on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury during the 2-0 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Frenchman confirmed the news via social media, having sustained the injury in the final moments of the match when he collided with Madrid substitute Endrick and teammate Virgil van Dijk during a footrace.
Although the referee blew the final whistle shortly after, Konaté remained on the ground, requiring medical attention before eventually limping off the pitch.
In a personal update shared with fans on his instagram, Konaté wrote: “So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process, but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again. Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah, we will keep going, and I will support the team every step of the way.”
Liverpool face the Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday and Konaté’s absence marks a significant setback for Slot as the Reds prepare for a demanding December schedule, which includes nine games in 29 days.
But Liverpool will hope their depth can compensate in his absence with the likes of Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah potentially filling the void left by Konate.
