Liverpool hold off Spurs fightback to advance in Carabao Cup | OneFootball

Liverpool progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after overcoming Tottenham 3-1 in an entertaining contest at Anfield.

The hosts survived an early scare when Giorgi Mamardashvili produced an excellent save to deny Lucas Bergvall from close range. Liverpool then responded and took the lead after 21 minutes, Alexis Mac Allister curling a superb effort into the top corner following good work from Rio Ngumoha.

Tottenham continued to threaten, but Liverpool remained dangerous and doubled their advantage shortly after half-time. Cody Gakpo cut inside from the left before firing a precise finish across Martin Dubravka and into the far corner.

Spurs refused to surrender and pulled one back with 21 minutes remaining, Conor Gallagher heading home from a corner.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser late on, with Mamardashvili also making a brilliant stop to deny Omar Marmoush. However, Liverpool finally sealed victory in stoppage time when Dominik Szoboszlai spectacularly struck a bouncing ball from distance into the net.

The result sends Liverpool into the next round while Tottenham's League Cup campaign comes to an end.
