Reds desperate to strengthen Andoni Iraola’s front line but unwilling to meet £145m asking price

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are holding crunch talks for the transfer of Bradley Barcola as both clubs seek clarity over a saga which has come to dominate the summer window.

The Reds earmarked the Frenchman as a top target to replace Mohamed Salah earlier this summer, and have been embroiled in talks with the European champions for some time.

The two clubs are reportedly struggling to find common ground on a fee, with PSG holding out for a £145m deal and Liverpool looking to spend closer to £100m.

With the clubs seemingly fast approaching stalemate, The Athletic report crisis talks have been held between the clubs on August 25 with an eye to clarifying the situation surrounding the player’s future.

Barcola has two years left on his current deal but is prepared to leave the French capital as he looks to improve his first-team minutes. He has spent recent campaigns playing second fiddle to the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.

The Reds are also thought to be interested in Barcola’s team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye, with the highly-rated 18-year-old in a similar position to Barcola. Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh has also been tipped as a target.

Liverpool are yet to find an out-and-out replacement for Salah, with Osasuna’s Victor Munoz their only attacking signing of the summer so far. He joined the club alongside Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.

PSG are thought to be unwavering on their asking price for Barcola, who enjoyed a productive World Cup campaign with France this summer.
