Liverpool has confirmed that Hugo Ekitike was not punished by the club after his red card in the League Cup against Southampton. Arne Slot himself clarified this during a press conference on Friday, September 26, dismissing any internal fine or direct disciplinary action.

Arne Slot categorically denied speculation about a financial sanction imposed on Hugo Ekitike. The 47-year-old manager made it clear that "disciplined means a fine, but none has been imposed" during his press conference at the AXA Training Centre. These statements come in response to reports from the Daily Mail that mentioned a two-week wage deduction.

“A punishment is a fine, and he hasn’t received one. I spoke to him. He immediately apologized to his teammates. He’s young. Players of all ages make mistakes, and at this club, you’re allowed to make them without being punished. He’s a fantastic human being. If you asked the staff for the top three warmest and most polite players, he’d be one of them. So, he can make a mistake. It wasn’t smart, it didn’t hurt us. It could hurt a bit more tomorrow (…),” Arne Slot said at the press conference.
