Club chiefs are said to have held ‘serious internal discussions’ over the manager’s future
Arne Slot is reportedly facing the sack at Liverpool following Mohamed Salah's stinging attack on the manager's tactics, with a dream replacement already identified.
Less than a year on from lifting the Premier League trophy, Slot's future is now under serious discussion behind the scenes at Liverpool.
According to TEAMtalk, FSG's head of football Michael Edwards and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes are having "serious internal discussions" over Slot as concerns continue to mount over the mood at the club and prospects of the project.
Salah's statement, posted on social media following Friday's 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa, will be viewed by many as a dig at Slot's tactics.
He wrote, in part: "Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.
“That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.”
Salah's statement, seemingly his latest attack on the Liverpool head coach, has drawn criticism from pundits - namely former Manchester United duo Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney - but has reportedly also prompted Liverpool's owners to become "increasingly alarmed" by the situation.
Liverpool have lost 19 games this season heading into Sunday's Anfield swansong, but messaging from the club has never waivered from support for Slot heading into the summer and next season. Liverpool last lost 20 games in a single campaign in 1992-93.
That may now have changed with Slot's situation "escalating at a pace" with Salah's remarks garnering supporting behind the scenes.

A shortlist of replacements have also been drawn up, TEAMtalk claim, with Paris Saint-Germain head coach the dream coach.
Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Andoni Iraola, who is leaving Bournemouth, Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness and Al-Ahli's Matthias Jaissle are also said to be of interest.
Slot's future will be assessed in a traditional end-of-season review, and the report claims the Dutchman is losing supporters behind the scenes as well as in the stands.
