Liverpool Injury Update: Alexander Isak, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister Latest News

Liverpool continue to juggle key injuries as the season moves into a decisive phase. Arne Slot’s side, Premier League champions in 2024/25, remain competitive across multiple fronts, yet squad fitness remains a constant talking point.

Ahead of the trip to Istanbul to face Galatasaray, the availability of several important players has come under scrutiny. Midfield balance, attacking options and squad depth could all be affected, particularly with updates surrounding Alexander Isak and Wataru Endo.

Below is the latest Liverpool injury news and potential return timelines.

Alexis Mac Allister Fitness Concern

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was forced off late in the FA Cup win against Wolves at Molineux after a heavy challenge from Hwang Hee chan. The Argentine appeared to jar his knee during the incident and required treatment on the pitch before being substituted.

The change had reportedly been planned before the tackle, which eased immediate concerns. Mac Allister also left the field under his own power, another encouraging sign.

Slot did not appear overly worried when speaking after the match.

“I think so, yes.”

Liverpool will assess the midfielder again before their European trip. At present, there is cautious optimism that Mac Allister could still be available for the Galatasaray fixture.

Potential return date: March 10 vs Galatasaray (A)

Alexander Isak Recovery Timeline

Liverpool supporters have barely seen the best of Alexander Isak during his first season at Anfield. The Swedish striker arrived as the club’s record summer signing after forcing a move from Newcastle, yet injuries have significantly disrupted his campaign.

Isak has been absent since December after suffering a serious ankle injury. The problem occurred shortly after he scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory against Tottenham, when a challenge from Micky van de Ven resulted in a fractured fibula.

The striker has missed 17 matches since that setback.

Sweden manager Graham Potter recently suggested Isak could return around the international break. However, Slot has taken a more cautious stance regarding the striker’s recovery.

“It will be somewhere around [the March international break] and then it’s always the question if things go really well or if he gets a little bit of a setback.

“So, it will be around that period of time, end of March, start of April when he’s hopefully back with the group.

“When you’re back with the group it’s not to say that you are ready to play, let alone start, a game of football because, again, he’s been out for months and the last time he’s been out for months I think we could all see that it took him a while before he was the player we have signed from Newcastle.”

Reports in Sweden also suggest that international involvement this month is unlikely. Liverpool will prioritise a careful return to full fitness.

Potential return date: Late March or early April

Wataru Endo Facing Lengthy Absence

Midfielder Wataru Endo faces a much longer spell on the sidelines. The Japan international started in Liverpool’s victory over Sunderland on February 11 but was stretchered off during the second half with a foot injury.

Initial assessments were not encouraging.

Slot admitted after the match: “Wata will be out for a long time. We don’t know exactly how long, but long.”

Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu later confirmed that Endo had undergone surgery and that recovery is expected to take several months.

“I’ve heard that he had surgery. I’ve heard that it went well, but I don’t know the details of how it went.

“The plan is for him to be ready in time for the World Cup, so the rehabilitation process from surgery onwards is being considered.

“In order to play in the World Cup, he, the club, and we all share the same understanding.”

Endo’s absence leaves Liverpool with fewer defensive midfield options during a demanding schedule.

Potential return date: June

Squad Depth Key for Liverpool Run In

Liverpool’s injury situation highlights the importance of depth as the campaign progresses. With Alexander Isak still working his way back and Wataru Endo facing a lengthy recovery, squad rotation will be essential.

Encouragingly for Slot, players such as Florian Wirtz have already returned from injury, strengthening attacking options. If Mac Allister avoids a serious issue, Liverpool will maintain much of their midfield stability.

As Liverpool prepare for key domestic and European fixtures, careful management of returning players like Isak will be critical to maintaining momentum.
