Liverpool Injury Latest: Updates on Frimpong, Mac Allister and Key Players

International breaks often raise concerns for Premier League clubs, with players returning either fatigued or carrying fresh knocks. For Liverpool, however, the latest pause in the domestic schedule has brought relatively positive news. Several stars have returned unscathed, while others are edging closer to full fitness.

Frimpong nearing return to contention

Jeremie Frimpong’s Liverpool debut was cut short when a hamstring issue forced him off against Bournemouth. The Dutch defender has been sidelined since, but there is optimism around his recovery.

Manager Arne Slot indicated after the match that Frimpong’s absence would be limited, with the expectation he would return following the international break. The 23-year-old was not involved in the Netherlands’ September fixtures, allowing him extra time to focus on rehabilitation. Provided his recovery continues without setback, he could feature as early as Liverpool’s upcoming trip to Burnley on 14 September.

Konate fitness scare addressed

Ibrahima Konate caused concern when he was substituted against Arsenal, appearing to struggle physically. Initial fears of a more serious issue were quickly eased when it was confirmed the French centre-back was suffering only from cramp.

Despite those worries, Konate featured prominently for France during their World Cup qualifiers, starting both matches. His involvement at international level suggests he is available for selection this weekend, giving Liverpool added security in defence.

Mac Allister still building sharpness

Alexis Mac Allister’s situation is more nuanced. The midfielder has been managing a lingering problem since the latter stages of last season, which limited his pre-season involvement. While he has started two Premier League games this campaign, he is yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni confirmed during the current international window that Mac Allister is fit to play, but admitted the 25-year-old is “not at 100 per cent.” With a late return from South America following Argentina’s clash with Ecuador, there remains a possibility Liverpool may hold him back for their Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid on 17 September.

Isak building match sharpness

Alexander Isak, Liverpool’s record signing, made his competitive return during Sweden’s international fixtures. The striker, who missed much of the summer amid transfer uncertainty, came off the bench against Kosovo but looked short of full rhythm.

Slot is expected to take a cautious approach, potentially easing Isak back into Premier League action rather than throwing him straight into a starting role. A substitute appearance against Burnley remains the likeliest scenario before gradually increasing his minutes.

Outlook for Liverpool

While international breaks can often derail a manager’s plans, Liverpool’s situation appears manageable. Frimpong is closing in on a return, Konate looks available, Mac Allister may need careful handling, and Isak continues to build sharpness. Slot’s challenge will be to balance immediate needs with longer-term fitness across a congested calendar.
