Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak is a doubt to face Brighton in the Premier League this weekend.

Isak picked up a knock during the 1-0 win at Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek. The Swedish striker started alongside Hugo Ekitike in a new-look formation for the Reds, but is now a doubt to start against Brighton at Anfield tomorrow.

Isak has endured a tough time since arriving from Newcastle United in a £125m British record deal in the summer. The 25-year-old has scored just twice in 14 appearances across all competitions, having missed pre-season as he agitated for a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool’s attacking options are further stretched by Cody Gakpo’s absence, with the Dutch international set to miss ‘a few week’s with an unspecified injury. Wataru Endo is also facing a spell out with a hamstring issue.

There’s better news on Federico Chiesa, who has recovered from illness and is available. The Italian could replace Gakpo on the left-hand side.

Slot also said he will hold talks with Mohamed Salah to determine his involvement. Salah was excluded from the European squad in midweek after a controversial interview in the wake of Liverpool’s draw at Leeds last weekend.

Elsewhere, Jeremie Frimpong is closing in on his return from a hamstring injury. Fellow summer signing Giovanni Leoni remains out for the long term with an ACL issue.
