FC Bayern appears to have suffered a setback in its pursuit of one of South America’s most exciting young talents. According to media reports, Samuel Martinez has decided against a move to Munich and is instead set to transfer to Liverpool FC.
While Bayern continues to strengthen its roster for the 2026–27 season, one promising young talent does not appear to be making his way to Säbener Straße. As reported by the tz, 17-year-old Samuel Martinez will join Liverpool FC. According to the report, the attacking talent is already on his way to undergo a medical exam with the Reds.
According to the report, the Munich club had been closely monitoring the Atlético Nacional playmaker for months. Following the signings of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, the record champions are said to be continuing to scout for promising young players, particularly in central midfield. Martinez was apparently considered one of their top targets.

Bayern are said to have rated the Colombian’s potential particularly highly. According to the tz, Martinez reminded the Munich scouts of former World Player of the Year Kaká due to his playing style, dynamism, and stature. The Brazilian won the Ballon d’Or in 2007 while playing for AC Milan and is considered one of the outstanding attacking midfielders of his generation.
This likely makes it all the more painful for Bayern that Martinez has apparently decided against a move to Munich. An interesting side note: The 17-year-old is represented by German player agent Daniel Neumüller. Nevertheless, this connection was apparently not enough to convince the talented Colombian to join FC Bayern.
Instead, Martinez is expected to play in the Premier League and continue his development at Liverpool FC. However, official confirmation of the transfer has not yet been provided. Should the move go through as expected, the Munich club will have to concede defeat in the race for one of Colombia’s most promising talents.
