Liverpool interest could spark unlikely Chelsea January mega-deal for defender

Chelsea’s move for defender Jeremy Jacquet has had no real concrete update in weeks, but the transfer insiders just won’t let it die.

It seems like the only big deal the Blues are involved in at all this month, although we’ve been saying all along it looks too big to pull off before the summer, especially with just 24 hours left in the window.

But the likes of Ben Jacobs are still clinging on to the idea that it might happen – perhaps just for the engagement online.

Chelsea could be prompted to early swoop by Liverpool interest

Jeremy Jacquet’s status updated by Ben Jacobs.

The well connected Chelsea writer said that the Blues are “still in talks” with Rennes, who have “to date insisted on no winter deal.”

Jacobs counters that by saying that “all options remain on the table for Chelsea,” who are long term admirers.

Liverpool are now seemingly part of the interested group. They are only interested in a summer deal, however.

Maybe that will be what suddenly springs this deal back to life – knowing the competition will be hotter in the summer, Chelsea might look to steal a march on their rivals by grabbing Jacquet early, much as they did with Enzo Fernandez a couple of years ago.

We still consider it very unlikely, especially considering the imminent recall of Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg. But don’t rule it out just yet. Stranger things have happened on January deadline day…

In other news…

Aaron Anselmino is about to leave Chelsea on loan for our sister club Strasbourg, after some interesting accusations of tapping up from Dortmund, the last team he was with.

Another important goal for Enzo Fernandez last night saw him add another G/A to his impressive total for 2026 already. He’s on his way to beating last year’s already impressive numbers.
