While Real Madrid often succeed in securing their desired targets, there are occasions when they fall short.

Indeed, examples of Francesco Totti and Gianluigi Buffon spring to mind, who were wanted by Los Blancos’ hierarchy but the moves failed to come to fruition.

Now, Steven Gerrard, a former Liverpool and Premier League legend has come out to profess that he was also invited to grace the Real Madrid jersey, but his love for Liverpool prevented him from parting ways.

Steven Gerrard does not regret rejecting Real Madrid

Gerrard left a lasting impact on football in England. Despite offers from top clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea, the Anfield legend believes he made the right decision by staying with the Reds.

“I had offers from Real Madrid and Chelsea, but my heart was always with Liverpool. I have never regretted that decision. If I could go back in time, I would do the same,” Gerrard told MBC Masr 2 (h/t AS).

The Al-Ettifaq manager played for Liverpool from 1998 to 2015, winning a total of nine trophies during his career with Liverpool.

Given his exceptional leadership, long-range shooting, and precise passing, the legendary midfielder would undoubtedly have reached even greater heights in the Spanish capital.

Gerrard opens up about the Messi vs Ronaldo debate

Cristiano Ronaldo achieved innumerable accolades at Real Madrid and went toe-to-toe with Lionel Messi for over a decade on the highest level.

When asked to choose who he prefers, Gerrard responded diplomatically, “Both Cristiano and Messi are incredible players with incredible stories in football.

“Ronaldo is a great individual goalscorer, while Messi is a more complete team player. I can’t really choose between them, they are both legends,” he said.
