Alexander Isak Ready for Liverpool Reset Under Andoni Iraola

Alexander Isak arrives at this Liverpool pre-season with something to prove, and that is putting it mildly. The £125m striker has barely had a smooth day since swapping Newcastle for Anfield in a transfer that dragged on, turned sour and left him short of rhythm from the outset.

The blunt reality is that expensive forwards get judged quickly. At £125m, there is no grace period, no sympathy and no patience. Isak knows that. Liverpool know that too. But context matters. He arrived late, missed work on the training ground, entered a struggling dressing room and then suffered a serious setback just as he was finding his feet.

That is why there is belief that the real version of Isak has not yet been seen at Anfield.

Andoni Iraola Could Benefit from a New Signing Without Buying One

That is the interesting part for Liverpool. Iraola may effectively be inheriting a new player. Ian Rush speaking to the BBC said: “I’m hoping Isak comes back a new player.” He added: “He’ll be ready. He doesn’t need a pre-season. He’s got over his injuries and he’s played for Sweden at the World Cup.” Rush also said: “I think he’ll be coming back looking to prove a thing or two to other people.”

There is no mystery here. If Isak is fit, available and sharp, Liverpool’s attack gains a major weapon. For all the noise around his fee, this season will be judged on output. Goals change the conversation quickly.
