Liverpool linked again with Van de Ven raid amid Spurs struggles | OneFootball

Liverpool are again being linked with a move to sign Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur, as the Reds eye a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool are long-term admirers of Van de Ven and expressed interest in the Dutch defender prior to his move to Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023.

According to Football Insider, Andoni Iraola’s side are weighing up an approach for Van de Ven in the upcoming transfer windows, as Van Dijk nears the end of his decorated career with the club. The Liverpool captain’s contract is due to expire in the summer and he will turn 36 in July.

Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet in the summer and the 21-year-old has made an impressive start, while Giovanni Leoni is highly-rated at Anfield, but recovering from an ACL injury that derailed his first season.

A more senior option could be sought, and Van de Ven has been earmarked as a potential Van Dijk successor, though Spurs have no plans to entertain bids.

The 25-year-old signed a new contract in North London in the summer, which runs until 2031. However, Spurs continue to struggle and are bottom of the Premier League table after five games. Spurs have finished 17th in successive league seasons and Van de Ven could pursue a new challenge, should Roberto De Zerbi’s side fail to secure European qualification again,
