The Reds have already started negotiations with Wharton over a stunning move to Anfield this summer, according to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto

Liverpool have had a miserable 2025-26 campaign, but they are still on course to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Arne Slot’s side are looking to add quality to their midfield ranks, and they are understood to be big admirers of Wharton.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.

He has been consistently performing well for the Eagles, and is expected to be part of England’s squad for the World Cup next month.

Wharton produced a brilliant display to help Palace beat Shakhtar Donetsk in their Conference League semi-final first leg on Thursday.

He has made 46 appearances across all competitions this campaign, with seven assists to his name.

United have Wharton on their shortlist, but it appears they face stiff competition from Liverpool.

The Red Devils are looking to add two midfielders, with Casemiro leaving the club this summer.

United are also heavily linked with Elliot Anderson, but they will reportedly not pay an exorbitant fee for the Nottingham Forest star

Sandro Tonali and Aurelien Tchouameni are other options for the Manchester titans, although a deal is not expected to be easy for any of the two.
