The future of Curtis Jones has been a topic of discussion for months now. It all started when Inter Milan made a late enquiry for the midfielder back in January.
The 25-year-old was reportedly open to a move to the Italian giants, but a concrete move wasn’t made. That was until this summer, where Liverpool have rejected a £21m offer from Inter for Jones.
Liverpool value the midfielder at around £35m and will not sanction his exit for anything less than that.
Interestingly though, Jones only has one year remaining on his deal and could be set to leave on a free transfer next summer.
But according to Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo, the club’s stance has changed…
When discussing Jones’ contract situation, Gorst said: “Curtis Jones faces an uncertain future as he continues into the final year of his deal. The midfielder had been wanted by Italian giants Inter but their offer fell shy of £22m last month when the Reds had been looking for closer to £35m.”
“Liverpool would prefer to keep Jones and re-open talks with his representatives but no discussions are currently lined up and it remains to be seen if new coach Andoni Iraola can offer the sort of game-time that might force a rethink inside the player’s camp.”
“Nottingham Forest have been linked with Jones after their £116m windfall for selling Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. Liverpool won’t be willing to conclude a deal with Forest on the cheap, however, given the injection of capital that came from the enormous fee for Anderson.”

The midfield market has gone crazy since Elliot Anderson’s £116m move from Nottingham Forest to Man City. Mateus Fernandes has joined Tottenham Hotspur for £85m from relegated West Ham United.
Liverpool-linked Adam Wharton is valued at around £100m by Crystal Palace, and the Reds have now cooled their interest.
In the midst of all of this, a two-time Premier League winning midfielder in Curtis Jones could be available for just £35m. That doesn’t sit right.
You won’t find better value than that in the current market. However, with Liverpool recently rewarding Ryan Gravenberch with a hefty new deal, Jones sits in a strong position for negotiations.
Most importantly, Jones wants to play. Despite the struggles of Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister, he couldn’t secure a regular spot in the first-team. But that was under Arne Slot. The situation could change completely with Andoni Iraola at the helm.
As it stands, Jones is set to stay for the upcoming season. From there, he will either sign a new deal or join a long list of names to leave the club for nothing when next summer rolls around.
