PSG eliminated Liverpool last season in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, as the French team beat multiple Premier League clubs on its way to winning the competition.
Moreover, the capital club left a significant impact on the Reds’ manager, Arne Slot, who noted that the Parisians had key traits in their squad that they lacked, likely leading to the elimination.
As a result, last summer, Liverpool went out and secured former PSG attacker Hugo Ekitike. After leaving the French giants, Ekitike made a name for himself while playing in Germany at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Slot recently spoke to the media in England and said PSG influenced their decision to pursue a player with Ekitike’s profile. Moreover, that choice also benefited PSG, considering they had a sell-on clause attached to the Frenchman.
“Hugo is one of the fastest players we have,” Slot said (h/t Le10Sport). “That was one of the qualities I wanted to bring to this team, meaning having incredible pace.
“I’ve noticed that many top-level teams have one, two, or even three players with exceptional speed. Last season, we faced Paris Saint-Germain, and we had to deal with Dembélé, Barcola, Doué, all incredibly fast players. That’s what we tried to bring by signing Ekitike.”
It will be interesting to see if PSG and Liverpool cross paths in the knockout stage and whether the English side have added enough players with exceptional pace.
