One of English football’s most exciting young strikers is attracting interest from three of the country’s biggest clubs, according to new reports.
Manchester City are once again at the centre of recruiting some of the game’s finest young prospects, having moved with intent throughout the course of the summer so far to bolster their youth ranks.
Fresh off the back of silverware success in Premier League 2 last season in particular, many of the City Football Academy’s young stars are being targeted for moves into the senior game, and as such a refresh of options is required.
Among the teenage Academy names to have been heavily linked with moves to Manchester City this summer are Newcastle United’s Ethan Fullen, Tottenham Hotspur’s Dexter Oliver, and Liverpool’s Kaylum Moss.
Now, it appears as though Etihad Stadium officials are targeting a name from the lower reaches of English football, with a view towards propelling the player to the very summit of the game just a few months on from his senior debut.
That is according to the information of MailSport’s Simon Jones, who reveals that Manchester City officials are now ready to rival Premier League champions Liverpool for Salford City’s highly-rated young striker, Will Wright.
Despite being in the second year of his scholarship, the Merseyside giants are said to be keen on taking the teenager now and have made a formal offer for his services, while City are poised to make a rival offer in excess of £100,000 plus add-ons.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, all of Arsenal, Brentford, Leicester City and Burnley have also reportedly checked on the teenager, who it is revealed is believed to be most interested in an Anfield move.
The 17-year-old recently made his senior debut for Salford City against one of the club’s now reported to be interested in securing his services, as he featured against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side in the FA Cup third round back in January.
Despite only featuring for a few minutes, the appearance was recognition of his remarkable rise in the game, having scored over 50 goals at all levels for the club last season and was spotted playing for local sides Euxton Villa and AFC Fylde only two years ago.
Should Manchester City decide to intensify their pursuit of the player and make a concrete approach for his services, it is highly likely that Will Wright would be integrated into their Under-18 set-up, although a step up into the Elite Development Squad would not be ruled out.
