Liverpool have identified midfield as an area to rebuild ahead of the summer window.
The Premier League champions have slumped badly during Arne Slot’s second season in charge. And underperformance in midfield is one reason why the Anfield club are no longer competing at the top end of the table.
The likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have been out of form all season long - with contract uncertainty around both Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo.
It would be no surprise to see sporting director Richard Hughes conduct a major midfield refit - with the sector last being overhauled back in 2023.
And one player who looks increasingly likely to arrive at Liverpool is Eduardo Camavinga. The 23-year-old joined Real Madrid from Rennes back in 2021 - going on to enjoy a successful spell including two Champions Leagues.
But it looks like the French international’s time at the club is coming to an end - despite a contract until 2029. Camavinga has struggled for regular starts under both Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa.
And according to a report in Defensa Central he would fare no better under incoming Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
Indeed it is claimed that Camavinga will be surplus to requirements under the Special One - paving the way for a move to Merseyside.
It’s been a season to forget for Madrid and Camavinga in particular. He has been scapegoated for the Champions League elimination and left out of the France squad for the FIFA World Cup. He is a young player however with world-class quality in his locker.
Right now Camavinga is in need of a fresh start and that can be offered to him at Anfield. Capable of playing No6, No8 or even left-back in a bind Camavinga is renowned for his forward passing and would make a real difference in the heart of Arne Slot’s midfield.
