Last week it emerged that Harvey Elliott will be reporting back to the AXA Training Centre for pre-season training.

It’s been a season to forget for the 23-year-old - who was sent out on loan to Aston Villa ahead of a proposed £35m transfer.

But the England under-21 international has been all-but frozen out by Unai Emery - watching Friday night’s clash between the two sides in the Premier League from the stands.

Under contract until 2027 sporting director Richard Hughes will have a big decision to make over the title-winning playmaker at the end of the current campaign.

It’s unlikely that head coach Arne Slot will change his mind on Elliott - with the Dutchman offering him precious little football during their one and only campaign together thus far.

And while Elliott will be integrated in the first-team set-up come summer it may not be long until he has to pack his bags again.

RB Leipzig want Harvey Elliott

Liverpool are not going to get anything close to the £35m they were promised by Villa - but Elliott would nonetheless be a useful pick-up for an English or European club.

It now looks like RB Leipzig are paving the way for a potential bid for Elliott - one year on from being linked with the left-footer for the first time.

Last season Leipzig ultimately could not come to terms with the Anfield club over a transfer deal - leading to a last-minute loan + option to Aston Villa.

But depending on what happens with Brajan Gruda the Red Bulls could be back.

Elliott's Leipzig move depends on Gruda

The on-loan Brighton talent has had a very decent second half of the season back in the Bundesliga - scoring three times and adding three assists.

He is under contract at the Amex until 2028 however and it remains to be seen whether the Premier League side sanction a permanent exit or even a loan deal.

According to BILD if RB Leipzig cannot get a deal over the line for Gruda then it is likely they will turn once again to Elliott.

It’s a shame it’s working out this way for Elliott - a boyhood Liverpool fan.

But he only has one year on his contract and Richard Hughes won’t risk losing him for nothing. Therefore a parting of the ways now looks inevitable - with Leipzig set to come forward with their interest.
