It has been a notably slow first transfer window in charge for new Reds boss Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes, who have yet to welcome any new arrivals to Anfield with just three days remaining until the summer market closes for business.

Liverpool have now made highly-rated Georgian goalkeeper Mamardashvili their first signing of the post-Jurgen Klopp era, but the 23-year-old is set to remain in LaLiga with Valencia until the end of the current season before arriving on Merseyside in time for the 2025/26 campaign.

The Reds are believed to be spending around £30million on the player, who has made 102 total appearances for Valencia to date since joining from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021 and impressed for Georgia during their major tournament debut at Euro 2024 in Germany earlier this summer.

While Mamardashvili will not join until next summer, Liverpool are reportedly hoping to clinch a move for Chiesa before the close of the transfer window at 11pm BST on Friday night (August 30).

It was rumoured earlier this summer that Serie A giants Juventus had made the Italian international available for sale at a cut-price fee after a frustrating injury-plagued spell in Turin since joining from domestic rivals Fiorentina on a permanent basis in 2022 following a successful two-year loan spell.

Liverpool were first linked with a surprise swoop for Chiesa on Monday, with multiple outlets including The Athletic then reporting on Tuesday night that they were indeed pressing ahead with a deal that could be worth around €15m (£12.7m), with the 26-year-old said to be discussing a potential four-year contract.

Earlier on Tuesday, left-back Owen Beck departed Liverpool in order to join Championship side Blackburn on a season-long loan deal.

Other recent exits from Anfield include Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg, both of whom joined Brentford in separate deals for a total fee of around £47.5m.

Liverpool have recorded back-to-back wins under Slot to kick-start their new era after an encouraging pre-season performance, defeating newly-promoted Ipswich on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign before brushing aside Brentford at Anfield on Sunday.

Next up this weekend is a trip to face fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
