Liverpool’s midfield was a priority in the transfer market over the summer, however no reinforcements ever arrived.
Since the start of the season the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch has calmed supporters' worries about the Reds’ midfield depth, but for many the midfield remains a priority.
Beyond Ryan Gravenberch, only Wataru Endo and Tyler Morton are natural in the holding midfield role and Slot doesn’t seem to fully trust either of his back-ups.
Liverpool’s number one target in the summer was Martin Zubimendi, who opted to remain at Real Sociedad over moving to Merseyside.
It now appears that another long-term target could soon be available and the Reds could be tempted into moving for him to boost their midfield options.
