Liverpool open talks with Genk to sign 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans | OneFootball

Liverpool have commenced talks to sign teenage sensation Lucca Brughmans from KRC Genk.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims that the Reds are working on a deal for the 18-year-old goalkeeper to join them this summer.

They are not alone in their interest, with Bayern Munich also looking to land the Belgium U-19 international before transfer deadline.

Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has added that they are weighing up the possibility of having the youngster join the team this season or leaving him at Genk until 2027.

Chelsea signed the then-teenager and let him spend one more season at Genk before he moved to Stamford Bridge.

Brughmans is being looked at as a replacement for Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.

The Georgia international is unhappy with being on the bench at Anfield and could leave this summer, leaving room for a new back-up goalkeeper to arrive at the club.

Brughmans stands at an imposing 200cm tall and has already acquainted himself well to senior football.

He has appeared four times for Genk so far this season, keeping one clean sheet.

The youngster has played 15 times in total for the club, having appeared on 11 occasions in the 2025-26 season.

Liverpool would be making a significant gamble if they choose to replace Mamardashvili with a goalkeeper as young and inexperienced as Brughmans, given the likelihood of his playing during the season.

Mamardashvili has been a solid deputy to Alison, proving dependable when asked to step up in the absence of the Brazilian.

The jump from the Belgian top-flight to one of the biggest clubs in the world would be a significant one for anyone, let alone an 18-year-old with less than 20 senior games.

The best course of action would be to let him complete the season at Genk, as Chelsea did with Mike Penders, and evaluate him next summer.
