Liverpool last conducted a midfield overhaul back in 2023.
Out went big names like Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner. And in their place came Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.
It’s fair to say that decision paid off for Jurgen Klopp and his successor Arne Slot - with the Reds winning the Premier League title last season.
The performance of the club’s midfield sector went a long way towards deciding the fate of the title - with Gravenberch emerging as one of the best defensive midfielders in the game.
This season Szoboszlai in particular has taken his game to new levels - establishing himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe.
Liverpool are reported to be in the process of tying down both Gravenberch AND Szoboszlai to new deals - as they along with Mac Allister have got contracts due to expire in 2028.
While news of a renewal for Macca has been unforthcoming, recent reports suggest that sporting director Richard Hughes has stepped up efforts to sign up Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.
In the case of the Hungarian, Real Madrid are now reported to be sniffing around - and a report in Football Insider suggests that Liverpool have put a £100m price tag on his head.
In any case the club will be desperate to prevent losing Szoboszlai - and a renewal with a massive pay rise is in the works.
“Liverpool are eager to tie Dominik Szoboszlai down to a new contract after intense interest from Real Madrid,” the report reads.
“Despite Arne Slot valuing Szoboszlai at £100million, that hasn’t deterred European giants los Blancos from coming after him.
"Liverpool won’t want to even consider letting him go and talks have started about a new contract as well and an improved salary just to reflect his importance in that Liverpool side.”

Szoboszlai is reported to be making around £120k per week at Liverpool following his £60m move from RB Leipzig.
That may well be a very good salary - but it’s a long way short of the 25-year-old’s peers at other top clubs. He and his entourage will no doubt be aware of his value - and if Liverpool want to keep him happy then they must pay him accordingly.
Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season - featuring in a range of positions for Arne Slot. This is one renewal that Liverpool need to get over the line with minimum fuss.
