Liverpool provided a positive update on Mia Enderby, who has returned to training just days after she was taken to the hospital with what was suspected to be a neck injury.
The forward appeared to suffer a neck injury, which required a lengthy stoppage, with 22 minutes added onto the clock during their 2-1 defeat against Tottenham.
Gareth Taylor’s side have suffered some major injury blows in recent weeks, and it was feared that Enderby could be set for an extensive spell on the sidelines.
Liverpool released a statement on Wednesday revealing that Mia Enderby was back in training, just three days after appearing to suffer a nasty injury against Tottenham.
Their statement read: “The Liverpool FC Women striker was stretchered from the field of play after a collision in added time during last Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur.
“Enderby was immediately treated by medical staff before being transferred to a local hospital to undergo scans for head and neck injuries.
“Following a period of assessment and confirmation of results, she has now been cleared to return to play and has rejoined Gareth Taylor’s squad.”
The fact that Mia Enderby has avoided a serious injury is a massive update for Liverpool, who are struggling in the WSL with zero points from their first six games.
Liverpool have suffered one of the worst starts in WSL history and will join five clubs to go through their first seven games without a point if they lose to Brighton this weekend.
Enderby appeared to land on her neck after jumping for an aerial ball during Liverpool’s defeat to Tottenham.
The 20-year-old underwent extensive treatment on the pitch before she was taken off on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital.
Enderby’s nasty collision led to 22 minutes being added on in Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham.
Liverpool head coach Taylor, said after the game that the incident was “not nice to see”.
He added: “Obviously [she was] stretchered off and I’ve not had an opportunity to speak to the medical department. I think she has gone to the hospital, but hopefully she is OK.
“At one point, I thought she was going to re-enter in terms of getting back up and start to play again but with those types of injuries, it’s really crucial we take care of them.”
The Enderby update is a boost for a Liverpool squad that saw two ACL injuries last month.
Marie Hobinger first injured her ACL during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the WSL.
She was joined just days later by Sophie Roman Haug, who suffered the same injury during Liverpool’s League Cup triumph against Durham.
The pair are among 17 players to suffer knee injuries in October. This list also includes the likes of Michelle Agyemang, Lena Oberdorf, and Tottenham’s Maite Oroz.
