Joe Gomez could end up exiting Liverpool which would open the door for Lutsharel Geertruida to join

The future of Joe Gomez has hung heavy over the heads of everyone involved with Liverpool over the last couple of years.

In fact, during both the summer and winter transfer windows that have just gone by, the Englishman was a hot topic of conversation.

And, it seems like the exit links aren't going to slow down any time soon with Bayern Munich among the many clubs rumoured to be interested in the Englishman, according to Caught Offside.

In all honesty, Gomez could probably do with a fresh start away from the English media but, from Liverpool's point of view, they'd be losing a back-up for every defensive position.

This is why their move for Lutsharel Geertruida could be revisted in the summer, especially if Sunderland don't choose to activate their option to buy him.

Lutsharel Geertruida would be an ideal signing for Liverpool

Although Geertruida's deadline day move to Liverpool fell through due to the lack of time left in the transfer window, that doesn't mean that the Dutchman isn't a transfer that can be explored in the summer.

The defender is only 25 years old and, much like Gomez, he can play anywhere across the back four.

And, since he's currently playing for Regis le Bris' Sunderland, he already has an extensive amount of Premier League experience, which, in this day and age, is key for teams that want to win the title.

Liverpool bit the bullet and signed some players without any Premier League experience and, while some such as Hugo Ekitike took like ducks to water, others such as Jeremie Frimpong failed to meet expectations.

The time that it took the Reds' new signings to get adjusted to life as Liverpool players is also something that needs to be considered but, with Geertruida already playing Premier League football for a big club, and being dubbed an 'amazing' player in the past, it may not take him as long.

It's unclear how much the Dutchman would cost to prise away from RB Leipzig or Sunderland, but, if Gomez is finally sold in the summer, it's clear that Hughes and Slot will have a lot of work to do to try and replace him.
