Could Liverpool now double up on elite wonderkid wingers? They plan to.
Caught Offside claims Liverpool are the ones leading the race for Ibrahim Mbaye. Mbaye, who represents Senegal internationally but was born in France, could leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
And it's an interesting one for Liverpool. Mbaye, after all, has great parallels with Rio Ngumoha as a much-talked-about teenage winger at a top club.
Both are finding their feet at the elite level and hoping to leap into the top bracket very soon. However, both want more minutes, too.
Mbaye has started just nine for PSG and is struggling for consistent minutes. Similar can be said about Ngumoha, though he's a year prior in his development.
But it would be a move for something similar. Liverpool could end up with two incredibly talented teenage wingers and then the question becomes 'can you develop both?'.
It's a difficult one to answer. How many matches would a top team want to play with teenagers on both flanks? Surely not very many but it would be necessary if Liverpool wanted the pair to fulfil their outrageous potential.
Certainly, it's one to watch this summer.
PSG Performance and Stats
As of 28 April 2026, Ibrahim Mbaye is navigating a challenging period at Paris Saint-Germain. The 18-year-old winger has played 889 minutes in Ligue 1 this season, contributing one goal and two assists with an average FotMob rating of 6.79. While he featured more regularly in the first half of the campaign—including a notable performance in a 2–1 Champions League win over Barcelona—his minutes have dried up since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations. In April, he was an unused substitute in both Champions League quarter-final legs against Liverpool, though he did make brief appearances in recent league wins over Nantes and Angers.
Transfer Speculation and Interest
Mbaye’s lack of consistent game time under Luis Enrique has sparked intense transfer rumours. Reports from 28 April indicate that Liverpool are leading the race to sign the teenager, viewing him as a high-potential long-term asset. Manchester City, Aston Villa, and several German clubs are also reportedly monitoring his situation. While PSG would prefer a loan deal to retain control over their academy graduate, a permanent transfer valued at approximately €30 million is being discussed as his contract enters its final two years.
International Standing
In contrast to his club struggles, Mbaye has become a star for Senegal. He has already earned 10 senior caps, netting three goals and providing five assists. Having helped the Lions of Teranga to a runner-up finish at the 2025 AFCON, he is considered a "guaranteed" selection for the 2026 World Cup this June.
