Liverpool returned to winning ways on Wednesday with a dominant win at home to Qarabag, but a crushing injury overshadowed the result.

Only minutes into the first half, Jeremie Frimpong left the pitch after suffering an apparent muscle injury.

The Dutchman, who has impressed in recent games, was replaced by Wataru Endo who played the remainder of the game out of position.

Although the Japanese veteran performed admirably, having Endo at right-back is not a long-term solution.

Ryan Gravenberch also started the match out of position as Virgil van Dijk’s defensive partner.

Liverpool’s backline has been ravaged by injury, but there is one man who would solve all of the Reds’ problems.

Liverpool need to sign England international on deadline day

Arne Slot’s defensive issues go deeper than the current injury crisis.

There is doubt over the future of almost every defender at the club, and bringing in a defender will be a priority in the summer regardless of Liverpool’s winter business.

The Reds need another defender in their backline now though, and the perfect option is waiting for them at a Premier League rival.

Ezri Konsa would provide a solution to almost all of Liverpool’s problems, the Reds have been interested before and they should reignite that interest before the transfer window slams shut.

Capable of playing in the centre of the defence or at right-back Konsa could be deployed in several problem positions for Liverpool to sure up the defence.

Konsa is the perfect option for Liverpool

The Englishman’s versatility isn’t the only quality the Reds will be looking at either.

At 28-years-old, Konsa is heading into his prime years. He would also count as a homegrown player for Liverpool when registering their squad, something that the Reds are currently lacking.

Aston Villa would no doubt be reluctant to let one of their key defenders leave so late in the window, but Unai Emery’s side have well documented PSR issues, and a sizeable January fee for Konsa may be hard for them to turn down.

If Liverpool are serious about backing Slot this winter, Ezri Konsa would be an excellent show of intent and could go along way towards righting the ship at Anfield.
