Arne Slot says he hopes to have Jeremie Frimpong back next week.

Liverpool have been left without a recognised right-back of late due to injuries to Conor Bradley, Frimpong and also Joe Gomez.

Frimpong has been out since last month with a muscle issue, but while he will miss out again this week against Nottingham Forest, Slot says he is nearing a return.

“Jeremie [Frimpong] will not be involved this weekend yet,” the Liverpool boss said. “We hope he will be involved next week if things go as planned.”

Meanwhile, striker Alexander Isak has been back on the grass this week but is still not close to a return.

“And Alex [Isak] has been on the pitch now, not with his football shoes, with his running shoes for the first time this week, so that will still take a while before he is ready to play for us again,” Slot said.

“It’s nice for him to go on the pitch and it’s nice for us to see him there. There’s still enough work to be done but you do know, as a player, you arrive in the final stages of your rehab. When you’re in the gym and not on the pitch, that’s not the nicest part.

“Next step is doing ball with the work, which every player likes most, and then into the group. Then it takes a while before you’re ready to play.”
