Liverpool star Jeremy Jacquet delivers verdict on France debut | OneFootball

Liverpool centre-back Jeremy Jacquet was dissatisfied with his performance in France’s 1-0 victory over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Monday.

The 21-year-old was solid alongside Chelsea’s Maxence Lacroix, helping France keep a second consecutive clean sheet.

French journalist Walid Acherchour praised the centre-back, describing him as the ‘real deal‘ and saying that he has all the qualities of a modern defender.

However, Jacquet believes that he could have done better.

“It’s true that as a defender, a clean sheet is the best thing you can do,” he told the media. “Especially with the win at the end. I can only be happy,”

“But I am not satisfied. I think back to two or three attacking balls – I can do better once I recover. Overall I’m happy, we’re leaving with the three points and the clean sheet.”

The Liverpool youngster is aware of the competition he faces in France’s squad, which may explain his self-critical assessment.

Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba were the first-choice centre-back pairing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Lacroix and Ibrahima Konate providing cover for them.

Jacquet will be hoping for another start in Friday’s encounter against Italy and the return fixture against Belgium next Monday.

He is one of the eight nominees for the Premier League’s Player of the Month for September after helping Liverpool keep three consecutive clean sheets.

Jacquet could become the first France international to win the award in 11 years.
