Liverpool star ruled out of Euro 2024 through injury | OneFootball

Liverpool teenager Ben Doak has withdrawn from Scotland's Euro 2024 squad through injury.

The 18-year-old made five first team appearances for Liverpool last season, featuring once in the Premier League, once in the Carabao Cup and three times in the Europa League, and perhaps would have appeared more had he not missed a chunk of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery.

Doak was included in Scotland's preliminary 28-player squad for the Euros - his first call-up to the senior squad - but has been forced to withdraw just days after Queens Park Rangers striker Lyndon Dykes was ruled out because of a knee injury.

The versatile forward has played seven times for Scotland's Under-21s, scoring twice, and is widely regarded as one of Liverpool's brightest young prospects. He joined the Reds from Celtic in March 2022 for a compensation fee of around £600,000.

Liverpool have a number of other players preparing to compete at Euro 2024, including England quartet Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, who were included in Gareth Southgate's preliminary 33-player squad, and Andrew Robertson, who will captain Scotland.

Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo will represent the Netherlands, while Ibrahima Konate will hope to command a starting place for France. Dominik Szoboszlai is one of Hungary's marquee players and there are high hopes for Diogo Jota with Portugal - their Euro 2024 starting lineup on paper is one of the strongest in the competition.

Luis Diaz, Alisson Becker, Alexis Mac Allister and Darwin Nunez are in action at Copa America, turning out for Colombia, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay respectively.
