Liverpool have been dealt another blow with their star player suffering an injury.
Things were looking a lot better heading into the September international break rather than the October one. Liverpool lead the league title a month ago, now they are a point adrift of Arsenal after suffering three defeats in a row.
On top of everything the last month has seen several players pick-up injuries. Giovanni Leoni has been ruled out for the rest of the season, giving Arne Slot a severe lack of depth in the centre-back department.
Alisson Becker is also unlikely to return to action until November, which is again a huge blow given his experience and status as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Wataru Endo is also returning from international duty after he sustained an injury and he might not be the only one.
Ibrahima Konate picked up a knock against Chelsea which saw him being forced to come off the pitch just before the hour mark.
Slot confirmed this was not a tactical switch but necessitated due to Konate not being 100%. Now, he's in the France national team for their fixtures against Azerbaijan and Iceland this month but L'Equipe have cast some doubts over whether he's actually going to play.
According to their report, Konate will be assessed on Monday and that will determine whether he can play in his nation's next two FIFA World Cup qualifying games.
The report also confirms his injury, with Konate being described as ‘suffering from a quadriceps injury.'
We don't quite know what that means. We can only hope it's not a serious knock and that Konate won't be rushed back to play for France.
If he requires a bit of rest, a return to Liverpool might do him good.
Konate has never really been someone who has gone through a season without picking up a niggle. During the start of his career at Anfield, he had multiple issues.
Now over the course of the last 12-months, he's been quite fortunate, and Ruben Peeters has been credited with getting him into a new shape since his appointment at Liverpool.
Which is why this latest injury is such a setback. Although hopefully it's nothing serious and we will see Konate back playing when club football returns.
If it's something serious, Slot's options at centre-back will be even more limited than they were before.
