Liverpool headed into the international break with several first-team stars nursing significant injuries.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced out of the England squad due to a suspected hamstring injury he picked up against Aston Villa last Saturday. The 26-year-old will be touch and go for the Premier League game against Southampton which follows the international break, placing his participation in matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City in doubt.

Alisson Becker, meanwhile, has been out since October with a muscle injury of his own, giving Caoimhin Kelleher the opportunity to stake a claim for the No.1 shirt.

Diogo Jota hasn’t been seen since suffering a rib injury against Chelsea while Federico Chiesa remains absent as he struggles with getting up to match fitness.

More encouragingly, Harvey Elliott is back on the grass and expected to return to first-team contention soon.
