Liverpool’s bruising defeat to Aston Villa prompted one of the rawest discussions of the season on Anfield Index’s Late Night Live, as Lola Katz Roberts and Grizz Khan dissected another damaging display under Arne Slot.
The atmosphere throughout the podcast was heavy with disbelief, frustration and concern over Liverpool’s direction. Aston Villa’s energy, aggression and composure exposed familiar weaknesses, leaving Liverpool supporters fearing for the remainder of the campaign.
Lola Katz Roberts opened the discussion by admitting, “Every week we end up saying to each other, ‘I think that was the worst that I’ve seen. No, this is the new low.’”
That feeling lingered throughout the conversation as the panel questioned Liverpool’s mentality, body language and leadership after another collapse away from Anfield.
Grizz Khan’s analysis was uncompromising. Speaking about Liverpool’s growing list of defeats, he said: “This is Liverpool Football Club talking about 19 defeats. That is unheard of. That is criminal. That is gross misconduct. That is negligence of the highest order.”
The criticism centred on far more than one result against Aston Villa. Grizz repeatedly highlighted Liverpool’s lack of resilience, accusing the side of folding whenever opponents raised the intensity.
“We are that team where you shove us, you push us around a little bit, laugh in our face, say a few words and we crumble,” he said. “We absolutely crumble.”
Lola Katz Roberts also pointed directly towards Arne Slot’s responsibility for Liverpool’s collapse in confidence. “The confidence of the players is on the floor. And unfortunately, that does rest with the manager. That’s where the buck stops.”
Their frustration reflected growing anxiety around Liverpool’s inability to manage difficult away matches. Aston Villa dictated the contest physically and emotionally, while Liverpool looked fragile throughout.

One of the clearest themes from the podcast was Liverpool’s alarming defensive vulnerability. Lola Katz Roberts highlighted the recurring issue of allowing opponents time around the penalty area.
“If you give opposition players time and space on the edge of your penalty box in the Premier League, they will hit the ball on target and in some situations they will score,” she said.
Grizz Khan agreed, describing Liverpool as “brain dead”, “slow in the head” and “not sharp”.
The panel repeatedly referenced body language and mentality. Lola Katz Roberts admitted she could not see how Liverpool would recover psychologically before the next fixture, saying: “They do not believe in the manager.”
That line captured the central concern running through the entire episode.
Aston Villa sensed Liverpool’s uncertainty and exploited it ruthlessly. Ollie Watkins stretched the defence constantly, while Villa’s midfield controlled large parts of the game with greater aggression and clarity.
Despite the anger surrounding Arne Slot and Liverpool’s season, the podcast ended with an emotional appeal to supporters before the final home match.
Grizz Khan called on Liverpool to respond for departing senior players, saying: “We have to do it for the legends. It’s one last hurrah.”

Lola Katz Roberts echoed that sentiment with a rallying cry aimed directly at supporters inside Anfield.
“We owe it to them to get behind the team next weekend,” she said. “Forget the manager, forget the people above the manager. It’s just about those players.”
For all the criticism aimed at Liverpool and Arne Slot after Aston Villa’s victory, Late Night Live also captured something deeper, the emotional exhaustion of a fanbase desperate to see standards restored.
