Balde has started the season third in the left-back pecking order, behind Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo. In fact, he has yet to play a single minute, being having been fit and available for all six of Barcelona’s matches so far.

If Balde continues to be on the fringes of the Barcelona first team, it would be no surprise to see him leave in January. Manchester United wanted him in the summer, but after they gave up their pursuit, arch rivals Liverpool have now emerged as strong candidates for the 22-year-old’s signature, as reported by Sport.

Balde could be available for bargain price

As per the Catalan daily’s report, Barcelona are prepared to let Balde leave if he seeks an exit, especially given that his contract expires in 2028. An asking price of €40m has been set, and this would surely be no problem for Liverpool, who have had left-back issues in recent weeks.

If Balde continues to be on the periphery at Barcelona, it would be no surprise if he left. He’s only 22, and he cannot afford to let his career stagnate in the hope that he gets a chance under Flick, which is looking less and less likely as the weeks go on.

It will be interesting to see how Balde’s situation develops over the coming weeks and months, but if he remains a bit-part figure in the lead-up to January, it would be no surprise if Liverpool made an approach when the transfer window re-opens.
