Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday at 4:30pm.
Arne Slot’s men are looking to recover from their Champions League defeat at Galatasaray during the week.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike.
The Reds also lost their previous Premier League match, conceding a late winner to allow Wolverhampton Wanderers to secure just their second victory of the season in England’s top flight.
After a disappointing result against Galatasaray on Tuesday evening, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Slot make a couple of changes.
Federico Chiesa was also missing after being in the squad against Wolves last week, failing to make the trip to Turkey with the rest of the squad.
In terms of long-term injury problems, Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni, and Wataru Endo remain out.
The Reds should have no fresh injury concerns heading into this one, with everyone seemingly coming through the Galatasaray clash unscathed.
There might not be as much pressure on Slot as there is on the manager who is going to be in the opposite dugout this weekend. But there’s no doubt he needs to turn things around if he wants to remain at Anfield long-term.
The Dutch manager has plenty of credit in the bank after winning the Premier League title in his first season. But Liverpool’s drop off in form over the last few months must be a concern for the hierarchy.
Heading into the weekend, Liverpool sit sixth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. Champions League qualification is far from a given, and it would likely be considered a disastrous campaign if they follow up a title win by finishing outside of the top four.
The defeat against Wolves sparked fury among the fanbase, and it’s a result that summed up their season. Liverpool comfortably beat another struggling side, West Ham United, just a few days before, but their inconsistency shone through once again as they lost to the Premier League’s basement side.
The Merseyside outfit need to gather some momentum in order to rescue their season. They remain in the Champions League and in the fight for the top four in the Premier League, but they are at risk of failing in both competitions if their inconsistencies continue.
With former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso now a free agent, Slot might be looking over his shoulders over the coming weeks and months. The Spanish manager has been heavily linked with taking over at Anfield recently.
Two defeats in their previous three is a major disappointment, particularly given the opposition, so there’s no doubt it’s a must-win game for Slot and Liverpool as they host struggling Tottenham.
