Ibrahim Sangare challenges Erik Lamela.
Premier League giants Liverpool have been tipped to sign Nottingham Forest target Ibrahim Sangare from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool are known to be in the market for one more midfielder before the summer transfer window closes and they are showing interest in Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed on Wednesday afternoon that Liverpool are ‘in negotiations’ with Bayern Munch for Gravenberch and they are ‘expected’ to submit a ‘formal bid’ if the player’s valuation is within their reach.
But Sangare is another player they have been linked with this summer. The defensive midfielder has made a positive start to this season as he’s grabbed two goals and an assist in his six appearances for PSV.
ESPN reported earlier this month that Liverpool, Bayern Munich and PSG are all ‘interested’ in Sangare, who has a €37m release clause in his current PSV contract.
The same report from ESPN claims Nottingham Forest submitted a “bid” for Sangare earlier this summer but this proposal was deemed to “be not good enough”.
Now Dutch legend Ronald De Boer has claimed that Sangare is a “golden player” who “will go to a top team” like Liverpool in the near future.
“I think he’s a great player,” De Boer told Voetbalnieuws. “I think he cannot be kept for PSV. He will still go to a real top team such as Liverpool.
“I always say: if he gets the Makelele role, take the ball away and pass it on to someone who can play football well, then he is a golden player for your team. You need those kinds of players in your team.”
Liverpool reporter Neil Jones meanwhile has indicated that Gravenberch and Fluminense’s Andre are potential targets for the Premier League outfit.
“The word from within the club is that they are very much ‘open to opportunities’, which means if the right player is available at the right price, they will make a move. But as we’ve seen previously, Liverpool’s definition of ‘the right player’, or more specifically ‘the right price’, can be pretty narrow!” Jones told Caught Offside.
“There are lots of stories surrounding Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich, and were he to become available late in the window (there is a good chance) then I think Liverpool would certainly be in the mix. They like his profile, his potential and his ability to play multiple positions across the midfield. If the price was right, it would make a lot of sense.
“There’s also Andre of Fluminense, and I’d not be surprised if we saw a deal for him lined up, maybe for January, once the South American season is done and dusted. Whether they would sign him AND another midfield player, though, I’m not as sure.”
