Premier League rivals submit ‘monster’ bid for Ordonez

According to a report from Belgium outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, Crystal Palace have entered the race for Ordonez, seeing a ‘monstrous’ €40 million bid rejected on Sunday night.

That fee would represent a club record departure for Brugge, and Palace seem likely to return with an improved offer to try and bolster their defence before the deadline.

The report claims Liverpool are still interested in Ordonez, as did reports in England on Sunday, but with a ~£60 million deal for Jacquet in the works it feels unlikely that the Reds will match Palace’s offer this late in the window.

Ordonez could make an instant impact at Liverpool, who currently only have two senior central defenders available, but ensuring the deal for Jacquet gets over the line will be Richard Hughes’ priority on deadline day.

If Palace do fail to get their man, a summer move for Ordonez cannot be ruled out at Anfield, but if the Eagles are willing to improve their bid, then the Reds will probably miss out on another target.

A late swoop from Liverpool on deadline seems unlikely but isn’t impossible, but the club would be leaving it very late, and Club Brugge are not desperate to sell so an agreement would be hard to reach.
