PSG are described as “leading the race for the £51m Belgian”, with the French side viewing him as a possible successor to Bradley Barcola. If that situation is genuine, Liverpool would need to act quickly and decisively.

There is logic to that. Liverpool’s frontline has changed significantly, and replacing proven output has become one of the defining tasks of the window.

Godts brings a compelling profile on that front. According to the report, “Last term, he was one of Ajax’s best-performing attackers as he managed to contribute to 32-goals across all competitions.” That figure alone explains why Liverpool should at least be exploring the deal seriously. He is young, productive and already accustomed to responsibility at a major European club.

Andoni Iraola faces defining month

For Iraola, this is shaping into a defining spell before a competitive ball is even kicked. There have been additions, and there is time left, but not much of it. The report warns that “if they don’t get a move on soon, they’re definitely going to be left behind by their title rivals.” That may sound dramatic in early August, yet Liverpool supporters will recognise the broader point. If PSG are genuinely advancing for Godts, Liverpool may have to decide whether this is a target worth accelerating for now. On profile and numbers, he looks a credible fit. On timing, the opportunity may not wait.

Our View

From a Liverpool supporter perspective, this report makes sense on the surface, but there are reasons to be cautious. Godts looks talented, the 32-goal contribution figure jumps off the page, and £51m is the sort of fee modern clubs pay for potential at the top end. Even so, Liverpool have been here before with exciting wide players who look brilliant in another league and then need a long adaptation period.

The bigger frustration is that this story only highlights how much work still needs doing. If supporters are now talking about hijacking deals because the window has drifted, that is hardly a sign of a coherent summer. The line that “there’s only around a month left in the summer window” is exactly what worries fans. Liverpool should not be reacting this late when the squad’s weaknesses were obvious months ago.

There is also the positional question. Godts is most comfortable from the left, and the report itself admits “the Reds would have to figure out where he’d fit in”. That matters. Liverpool do not need another expensive square peg while other areas remain understocked. Centre-back depth, attacking balance and overall squad readiness all feel more urgent than simply chasing the next exciting name.

Supporters will hope Iraola gets proper backing, but many will want to see proof before buying into another ambitious rumour. Godts may be a good player, but Liverpool need a smart window, not just an active one.
