Arsenal 'have to find something' in attack - Arteta on Liverpool clash

OneFootball Videos

Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stunning free-kick as Liverpool beat Arsenal in an early-season showdown between two Premier League title contenders.

The Gunners were hit by an early blow in the first half when William Saliba went off injured and had to be replaced by Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera. But despite the setback, the visitors were bright and positive at the home of the champions, creating some promising attacks primarily through right winger Noni Madueke in the early exchanges.

In what was at times a scrappy first 45 minutes, Liverpool had a golden chance to score when Virgil van Dijk intercepted a slack pass by Arsenal keeper David Raya, but Alexis Mac Allister’s eventual shot was blocked, as the first half ended goalless.

The second half was equally closely fought, until Szoboszlai’s late free-kick from range gave Liverpool the lead. And despite the arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Max Dowman late in the piece, Liverpool held on.

Pundits criticise Arsenal’s approach after crucial Premier League defeat to Liverpool

Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher have criticised Arsenal’s approach after the Gunners sunk to a late defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Despite controlling large parts of the game, Arsenal went on to lose 1-0 thanks to a superb Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick, with the Hungarian’s effort cannoning in off the post from 32 yards.

Arsenal once again failed to win a big game, with the Gunners now having failed to win any away matches against either Liverpool or Manchester City during Mikel Arteta’s tenure.

When does the transfer window close and what time is the deadline?

Today marks transfer deadline day, with a number of big moves still to be completed.

Several clubs have made notable additions between now and the end of last season, with a mini-window that opened up ahead of the Club World Cup facilitating moves for players including Matheus Cunha, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rayan Cherki among others.

And the transfers have ramped up since the window re-opened on 16 June, with moves for Bryan Mbeumo and Viktor Gyokeres reaching into £60m territory while Liverpool paid a club-record £100m for Florian Wirtz, with that deal potentially becoming a Premier League record.

Almost every club in the Premier League remains keen on at least one addition before the end of the window, with the deadline to secure the last few deals fast approaching.

Here’s everything you need to know about the final days of the transfer window:

Furious Nicolas Jackson refuses Chelsea return after Bayern Munich move called off

Chelsea have cancelled Nicolas Jackson’s loan move to Bayern Munichafter Liam Delap was ruled out for “six to eight weeks” following their controversial 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

Delap limped off with a hamstring problem 13 minutes into the west London derby, and after head coach Enzo Maresca initially refused to rule out the club reentering the transfer market with just over 48 hours of the window remaining, the decision has been taken to inform Bayern that Jackson will be staying.

However, PA understands that the 24-year-old, who has already landed in Germany, is furious with the club’s U-turn.
