Humiliated by Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals and then dominated by Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, Slot is in “survival mode” as the pressure mounts on the under-fire head coach.

Securing a top-five finish and qualifying for next season’s Champions League, with their hopes of overturning PSG’s advantage at Anfield on Tuesday appearing extremely slim, is now an imperative for last season’s champions. Further dropped points, with Chelsea, Brentford and Everton in pursuit, could force Liverpool into a change of plan.

Fulham, meanwhile, are also in the hunt for European qualification and arrive at Anfield just five points behind the hosts and having dramatically snatched a draw against Liverpool earlier this season. Liverpool supporters will also begin a series of protests against ticket price rises.

Marco Silva on Fulham's European ambitions: 'We have big, big motivation'

Marco Silva has promised his Fulham players will fight for European qualification in the last few weeks of the season.

Fulham go into the weekend in ninth place, two points behind both Brentford and Everton in seventh and eighth.

But with those two sides meeting each other before Fulham kick off away to a Liverpool side who have suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, the Cottagers have the opportunity to move up this weekend.

"We have big, big motivation," Silva said. "We have set ourselves a position where we can fight something that is very difficult to achieve but is achievable.”

Fulham are the only Premier League team Liverpool have failed to beat who have played in both of Arne Slot’s two seasons at the club.
