Arne Slot’s side will look to get back to winning ways after losing three in a row before the international break

Liverpool will host bitter rivals Manchester United this weekend as they look to reclaim top spot in the Premier League.

The Reds conceded a galling 95th-minute winner as they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea before the international break, allowing title hopefuls Arsenal to usurp them as league leaders, taking a one-point advantage.

Arne Slot has now lost three on the spin at the hands of Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea - the first time in his career he has done so. Liverpool have only lost one of their last 14 meetings with United, though, so the match presents a good opportunity to get back to form.

United, on the other hand, are out to build a winning run by upsetting the reigning champions after they dispatched newly-promoted Sunderland last time out thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.

Ruben Amorim remains under considerable pressure despite Jim Ratcliffe’s claims he will be safe in his job for three years, but could shoot up the table with a win at Anfield.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Liverpool vs Man United is scheduled for a 4.30pm BST kick-off on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

The match will take place at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Manchester United team news

Noussair Mazraoui is expected to return to the United squad this weekend after he suffered an injury setback in September’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

The same is true of Ayden Heaven, who picked up a knock this week while representing England Under-20s, but his injury is not thought to be serious. Fellow centre-back Lisandro Martinez remains unavailable as he recovers from a torn ACL, but his return is expected by the end of the month.

Sesko has found his feet at United in recent matches, scoring two in his last two Premier League appearances. He will expect to maintain his spot in the starting lineup. So too will Mount, who joined him on the scoresheet against Sunderland.

Amorim has opted against experimentation in recent matches, meaning Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes should reprise their roles in midfield.

Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo are both expected to return from their respective knocks for the match, though Liverpool will be without Alisson Becker, who injured his hamstring in the Champions League ahead of the international break. Giorgi Mamardashvili will deputise.

Ibrahima Konate is a doubt after he was substituted early against Chelsea.

Alexis Mac Allister is another who may struggle to play a role after returning late from international duty, where he scored a brace for Argentina in a 6-0 defeat of Puerto Rico on Wednesday.

The No9 position remains up for grabs as Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak fight for a starting berth. Neither is on particularly good form, though. Isak is goalless in his last five for club and country, while Ekitike has scored once in the same period of time.

Mo Salah has more goal involvements against United than any other player in Premier League history, a record he will be keen to improve this weekend.

Liverpool vs Manchester United prediction

Amorim and Man United are yet to prove themselves against a top side this season. Their three Premier League wins have come against the newly promoted sides Burnley and Sunderland, and Chelsea, who played with ten men from the fifth minute.

One would expect them to struggle against the Premier League champions, then, but the case may not be as cut-and-dry as it appears. With Liverpool reeling having gone winless in three, now is the time for United to strike while the iron is hot.

Whether they can grab the opportunity is another question entirely. Slot has had a fortnight to tinker and will expect his Reds to get back to form after their recent wobbles.
