Liverpool will play Nottingham Forest at Anfield later today (Saturday September 14) but fans in the UK will not be able to watch the match live.

The reason why the match will not be shown on TV is because it takes place at 3pm and that falls under the blackout period introduced into English football in the 1960s. The blackout is designed to encourage attendances at lower league and non league English football grounds and does not allow football to be shown on TV from 2.45pm to 5.15pm.

It means fans in the UK will be some of the only fans in the world who cannot watch the game live. Instead, extended highlights will be available on Sky Sports shortly after the game finishes.

How to watch live

The action at Anfield kicks off at 3pm local time (4pm CET, 10am Eastern Time, 7am PST).

Fans in the US will be able to watch the game via Peacock and Canadian fans can watch via Fubo. Australian fans can watch the game on Optus Sport.

The match will be shown on Hotstar in India, NowTV in Hong Kong and StarHub TV+ in Singapore.

Liverpool will go into the game with three wins out of three including a comprehensive victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the last game before the international break. Arne Slot will be without Harvey Elliot, who has been ruled out with a foot injury, but the squad avoided any other major injuries during the international break.

Forest have started the season well with a win and two draws from their opening three games. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will be hoping to remain unbeaten when they travel to Anfield on Saturday.

Referee and VAR officials

The Premier League has confirmed the match referee will be Michael Oliver and his assistants will be Stuart Burt, Dan Cook. The fourth official will be Anthony Backhouse and VAR is Graham Scott with Craig Taylor assisting.

Liverpool as the home team will wear the team’s new home kit. The club will play in all red, meaning Forest will play in an alternative kit at Anfield. The Reds will wear their home pre match training shirts before the game.
