Liverpool are gearing up for another summer transfer campaign.

It’s been an underwhelming season for Arne Slot’s side - slipping from champions of the Premier League to also-rans battling for a Champions League spot.

That’s despite £450m worth of spending last summer - a market that has left the squad imbalanced. More work is clearly needed - with reinforcements required in defence and midfield.

With Andy Robertson moving on there will be a need for cover at left-back where Milos Kerkez currently commands the starting berth.

And the Anfield side could also do with energy and quality in midfield - where the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been beneath their best.

Liverpool want deal for Daniel Svensson

One player who could solve both problems is the versatile Borussia Dortmund star Daniel Svensson.

Capable of playing left-back, left wing-back and central midfield the 24-year-old Sweden international has long been on Liverpool’s radar. And now according to a report in Spain’s Fichajes Svensson is being closely monitored ahead of the window opening.

Under contract until 2029 Svensson is also being chased by Manchester United and Arsenal - and could cost in the region of £35m.

That is a reasonable sum for one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent performers - who has got two goals and two assists in the German top flight for the Yellow and Blacks this term.

Daniel Svensson: Situation summary

Daniel Svensson is an energetic, versatile left-sided defender-midfielder whose running power and intensity have quickly made him a key figure at Borussia Dortmund.

Born 12 February 2002 in Stockholm, Svensson is a Sweden international who can operate as a left-back or in central midfield and stands around 1.83m.

He joined Dortmund from FC Nordsjælland in early 2025, initially on loan, before BVB exercised a relatively low-cost purchase option (reported around €6.5m) to make the move permanent.

Svensson is a tireless, high-volume runner, regularly covering elite distances and ranking among Dortmund’s leaders for intensive runs and sprints.

He profiles as an offensive-minded full-back who enjoys advancing, dribbling aggressively and creating chances, while also being comfortable stepping into midfield zones.

Coaches and teammates highlight his “machine”-like work rate and tactical flexibility in and out of possession.

Dortmund have tied Svensson down on a long-term deal until June 2029, giving them strong leverage over his future. The initial fee and salary level place him firmly in the “asset” bracket rather than a player the club needs to sell.

His versatility, age profile (24) and performances have drawn interest from Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, with mooted fees around £35m.
