It looks like Liverpool are in the chase for Yan Diomande this summer.
It’s been confirmed by David Ornstein in the Athletic that the outgoing Premier League champions are leading candidates for the €100m-rated winger.
The Ivorian hasn’t ruled out signing a new deal with the Red Bulls - while Liverpool will also face competition from Paris Saint-Germain should the 19-year-old be put up for sale.
Leipzig are back in the Champions League but will still require around €100m in sales - according to various reports. Selling Diomande would erase their money troubles at a stroke but of course they would rather not cash their chips on him just yet.
More likely is that Leipzig make up the shortfall in the budget by selling other players. Liverpool have been linked with moves for various Leipzig stars - including Castello Lukeba, Assan Ouedraogo and Antonio Nusa.
And perhaps the most realistic option from the Bundesliga club to be signed by Liverpool is Lutsharel Geertruida. Weekend Sports editor Sebastien Vidal claims Liverpool are tracking the 25-year-old - who has no future at the Red Bull Arena.
“Lutsharel Geertruida, currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, is expected to leave the Black Cats this summer,” he writes on X.
“Leeds United is pushing to sign the Dutch defender, who is also being tracked by Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Tottenham.”
Geertruida has been spending the season on loan with Sunderland from Leipzig but the Black Cats will pass on the opportunity to sign the versatile Dutchman on a permanent deal.
That opens the door to a cut-price reunion with Arne Slot - Geertruida’s manager throughout a successful spell with Feyenoord.
Capable of playing right-back, centre-back and even in defensive midfield the Netherlands international would be an ideal addition to the Anfield side’s squad. They even tried to end his Sunderland loan spell in January and take him from Leipzig.
He would cost around €30m according to various reports and could take the place of Joe Gomez in Arne Slot’s setup.
Gomez is expected to leave this summer after 11 years on Merseyside - with AC Milan pushing to sign the England international who has one year left on his deal.
