Liverpool have entered the race to sign Hertha BSC defensive midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Concrete talks have already taken place to bring him to Anfield as Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be backed again this summer.
Eichhorn is planning to leave the 2. Bundesliga club in the coming weeks, and he has a release clause worth around €12 million. A move to Liverpool is likely if talks go well.
The teenage sensation played 18 games for Hertha BSC this term and is looking to move to a bigger club after they failed to secure promotion to the Bundesliga.
Joining Liverpool will appeal to Eichhorn, and it appears the feeling is mutual.
However, the Reds are unlikely to include the German in their immediate first-team plans despite his recent senior-level performances.
They are in dire need of reinforcements this summer after an underwhelming season, and while key first-team additions are on the cards, the Merseyside club are also preparing for the future.
Eichhorn has huge potential and could become a top Premier League star, but it is unclear whether he will be open to a move to a club where he is not guaranteed a place in the team.
He has been compared to Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Busquets and Toni Kroos due to his style of play.
The Liverpool target is a composed and intelligent defensive midfielder. Strong tactical awareness is his major trait.
Eichhorn shows calmness under pressure, and his performances in the German second division have impressed scouts from big clubs across Europe.
