Liverpool have been warned that Real Madrid are likely to be ‘sniffing around’ Alexis Mac Allister in the summer transfer window.
The Spanish side are eager to bolster their midfield options at the end of the campaign and have been linked with several Premier League-based targets.
Mac Allister has been a regular name cited as a player on the club’s radar, as Real look for a long-term successor to Luka Modric, following his exit last summer.
Mac Allister will enter the final two seasons of his contact at Liverpool this summer and the Reds have been warned they will face ‘a decision’ on his future if a new deal is not agreed.
Ian Doyle, of the Liverpool Echo, has said Real Madrid will be ‘sniffing around’ Mac Allister should he impress at the World Cup with Argentina – and not sign an extension at Anfield.
“This is a World Cup year. If Mac Allister has a good one with Argentina, there’s every chance Real [Madrid] will be sniffing around him,” Doyle said.
“And, with two years left on his contract, if a new deal isn’t agreed then Liverpool would have a decision to make should a big-money offer come in.”
