Liverpool are missing something right now and a wonderkid from the club's academy could be the solution.
Things are looking bleak at the moment. A defeat to Manchester United at Anfield and losing four games in a row means that Arne Slot's side is now very much on the precipice of a full-blown crisis.
Liverpool have assembled a great team but things are not clicking together. Even after winning the first seven matches of the season, it wasn't quite a perfect performance from the Reds.
Now it feels like the performances are starting to catch-up with the results. Liverpool look vulnerable at the back and they look lost in their build-up play.
The latter feels like it stems a lot from no longer being able to rely on Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds' former no.66 was a very important figure in Liverpool's build-up, who averaged the most progressive passes in Europe's top five leagues in the last calendar year.
Now without him, Liverpool don't have a substitute.
It's why Slot's side is struggling to get the ball into the right areas and why the structure looks so spineless and without any organisation.
This is a team that's in complete mess. There's so much disarray and so much that needs to be fixed. The solution is not just one answer but multitudes.
One thing is clear, there's definitely an issue when it comes to the personnel. Liverpool need more variety and they need players who are capable of filling the Alexander-Arnold void.
Players who are actually good in their build-up and will look to progress the ball into the right areas.
This is why Trey Nyoni deserves his chance. Right now he's a very unique profile in this Liverpool team. He's one of the few players who are very good at playing progressive passes.
We've seen that in pre-season. When he's played deeper like against Preston, he made eight progressive passes in a single half.
Nyoni is easily one of the best progressive passers in the team. His vision is exquisite and he could just be the key to unlock Liverpool's build-up play in the left-sided midfield role.
He showcased his quality in the UEFA Youth League against Atletico Madrid recently, making 15 passes into the opposition's final third, 13 of which were accurate.
Slot seems reluctant to give young players their chance. He's very rigid to his personnel. But with things not going quite right, change is imminent. He will have to swap things around and giving Nyoni a chance might be the one thing that could save Slot and Liverpool's plight right now.
