Liverpool travel to the Orange Vélodrome this evening while they aim to secure an automatic spot in the Champions League Round of 16.
The Reds have moved into a delicate phase of their season; while they remain unbeaten in 12 matches, a string of four domestic draws has increased the pressure on manager Arne Slot. Currently sitting ninth in the league phase table, a victory in France is essential to bypass the play-off round. The return of Mohamed Salah from international duty provides a timely boost for a frontline that has struggled to convert dominance into victories in recent weeks.
Arne Slot is managing a squad hampered by both long-term injuries and fresh defensive concerns. Conor Bradley is ruled out for the remainder of the season following knee surgery, joining Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni as long-term absentees. Notably, defender Ibrahima Konaté did not travel with the 21-man squad to Marseille due to a family matter.
Consequently, Joe Gomez is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence. The return of Mohamed Salah is the headline news; the Egyptian trained for the first time on Tuesday after finishing fourth at the AFCON with Egypt, and travelled with the team to France. In midfield, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to continue their partnership, while Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai provide creativity behind the pressing forward Hugo Ekitiké.
Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Ekitiké
