Arne Slot set for big selection decision at City Ground
Arne Slot faces a big decision over who to play at right-back for Liverpool at Nottingham Forest, with Jeremie Frimpong still not ready to return from his groin injury.
Arne Slot says Joe Gomez is ready to start after substitute appearances against Sunderland and Brighton, but Dominik Szoboszlai has played in that position in recent weeks and Curtis Jones did well there in the FA Cup win over Brighton.
Frimpong is closing in on a return after four games out, but the trip to City Ground comes too soon for him.
“Jeremie will not be involved this weekend yet,” said Slot on Thursday. “We hope he will be involved next week [against West Ham] if things go as planned."
If Slot does prefer Jones or Gomez at full-back, then Alexis Mac Allister or Cody Gakpo could be the fall guy further forward.
Hugo Ekitike and Ryan Gravenberch should come back into the starting line-up after being rested in the FA Cup.
Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni are long-term absentees for Liverpool, who have also lost Wataro Endo to a serious injury.
Endo is set for a significant spell on the sidelines.
“Wata will be out for a long time,” said Slot. “We don't know exactly how long.”
Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike
Injured: Frimpong, Endo, Isak, Bradley, Leoni
Time and date: 2pm GMT on Sunday, February 22, 2026
Venue: City Ground
